Add a stone dry creek bed that moves water through the yard and doubles as a landscape feature.
Extend usable space near the back deck with a stepping-stone path and paver patio.
Refresh the front yard with layered, low-maintenance plantings for year-round curb appeal.
Project Highlights
After a consultation with the homeowners to understand what they hoped to achieve and their style preferences, we developed a custom design that divides the backyard into distinct zones.
A dedicated play area sits beneath the family's swing set, finished in soft safety surfacing that cushions falls and keeps the space usable all season.
A stone dry creek bed carries water through the yard while doubling as a landscape feature, planted with ornamental grasses and anchored by boulders.
A stepping-stone path threads through the rock bed to a circular paver patio at the base of the back deck, lit by path lighting for evening use.
Out front, layered foundation beds of arborvitae, hydrangeas, a Japanese maple, and seasonal perennials are finished in dark mulch for a clean, defined edge.
Project Outcome
The finished property now works as hard as the family that uses it. A cushioned play space keeps the kids safe, the dry creek bed moves water through the yard without looking like drainage, and the patio gives the adults somewhere to land at the end of the day. Out front, the new plantings give the home the kind of everyday curb appeal that doesn't need to be dressed up for company.
